Spellings and exact dates do not need to be right — approximate is fine, and uncertain spellings are normal. But to assess anything I do need three things: a name, roughly when the person lived, and a place in Latvia, however unsure you are of it. A surname on its own is not enough to work from.
If what you have is not yet enough, I will tell you what to look for first. There is no charge for this.
The family line you would like to start with
Research is done one family line at a time — one surname followed back through the records — so start with the line that matters most to you. There is no wrong choice, and there is room for the others below.
Tell me about the earliest person you can name in that line. Usually that is a grandparent or great-grandparent.
Just the names, and a date or place if you have one. I will tell you which of them can realistically be researched and in what order.
I work in Vidzeme, Kurzeme and Zemgale, and do not take on Latgale families or Jewish ancestry.
Please note: due to personal data protection, research into people after WWII (from roughly 1945 onward) is only possible if you can provide documents proving your relationship to the person in question, together with a notarised power of attorney authorising action on your behalf. Searching for or contacting living relatives is not part of this service.
